I got to try a few samples from Beyond the Shaker. Fumee De Sel, Garlic Shallot (my FAVE!!!), Himalayan Pink Salt (my new obsession!), Hot Habanero Blend (Hubby LOVED this one!), Murray River Salt and Windy-City Celery samples :) They sent me some awesome ones!!!
I like that the website has a summary of the salts.... recommended uses... a story of how the salt came to be and the premium ingredients. I did take their recommended usages and put some of them to the test! LOL.
Fumee De Sel was really interesting...it's slow-smoked over aged chardonnay oak barrels....which really... I was just impressed with the whole idea of this one... and it had a unique taste that was awesome in our home made burgers and even on the potatoes we roasted on the BBQ. It left a smoking "BBQ" taste in your mouth... Hubby really liked this one.
Garlic Shallot is one of my faves! It's a mix of Fleur de sel, Himalayan pink salt, organic garlic, & organic shallot (took that straight off their site). I LOVE garlic...and onions... so this was perfect for me because it had all my usual spices in one but added the Himalayan pink salt. I literally used this one everything... chicken... pasta...veggies...you name it... I threw some of this in or on it! LOL.
Himalayan Pink Salt is actually hand picked in the Himalayan mines....goes great with fish and is pink because of its high mineral content. I tried this one in my pasta sauce and it was great! This salt is perfect for those dishes that simmer for a few hours.
Hot Habanero Blend Hubby added to just about every meal for a few days. It has a "Mexican" type of feel to it.. ton of chillies... cilantro (which personally.. I'm not big on cilantro..but it wasn't overpowering), Hawaiian Black Lava & Red Alaea salts (which I just think is cool...lol) and a few others. We put it in the meat for taco salads one night and it was great.
Murray River Salt...this was really cool... it was more of a flake...it was totally different then your average salt. It comes from Australia...and literally melts in your mouth. It doesn't have an extremely salty taste... it leaves a nice aftertaste and a mild salt flavour. We used this pretty much on everything....lol.
Windy-City Celery is another mixed seasoning.... it has a mix of Murray River salt, celery seed, organic mustard seed, organic jalapeno, organic garlic and a few others...which make this a great "pop" to many dishes. I tried it in beef stew that I made...and it went really well... I'll have to find some different ways to use this one... it's really complex :)
Thanks to Beyond the Shaker for sending me soooo many samples... I really gotta get cooking!! LOL
